Goodbye Goose, Hello Weeble

by admin on November 8, 2008

The crew has changed yet again. Goose has left for hearth and home and Weeble has taken his place. Mav is still running strong. Since leaving Hydro, the Mother Road has continued due east, but I-40 has curved away to the south a little, so Team Piraña is in the country in the dark. They took a picture of what they are seeing if there are no headlights around:

If Mav keeps up his current pace he will finish with a time around 24 hours. If you are going to bed, say your prayers and include Mav.

Lucille’s Is a Historic Place

by admin on November 8, 2008

Just a ,ile from the Hydro Aid Station (55.4 miles) is Lucille’s, a roadside attraction on Route 66. This is where Samsonite met his match. After a rough time at the half way point he struggled another 5 miles before giving in to multiple issues.

Mav on the other hand is actually doing better. T3 is rubbing down his calf muscles at every stop and he is eating and drinking well. His mood is good and he is going to make it!

Goose continues to pace him and T3 is driving the crew vehicle. Weeble is on is way to relieve Goose.

It is 9:25 and Mav and Goose just cruised back out.

Seven-O-Clock and All Is Well

Mav is coming into Weatherford. He made the turn around the construction is running into town toward the 50 mile point. After struggling with his nutrition and hydration he seems to be doing better and has a much better attitude.

The girls gave him one last hug before they had to head back to the city:

Another update after Mav goes through 50 miles.

This is Oklahoma After All

Angie and the girls (Mav’s girls) came out to see their man run.

Between Clinton and Weatherford are miles of these windmills. We have wind here, so it makes sense!

A little up the road we found Doc Tom.

He had positioned himself to block a dog from chasing the runners. T3 chased the dog into it’s yard and made it get on the porch (he had mace in his pocket) at which point the owner came out. She was very sorry that George had bothered anyone (George turned out to be a wimp in spite of his bark) and put him away. Doc Tom says he is going to call T3 the Dog Tamer

Area 71

by admin on November 8, 2008

Well, the crewing team has made a change and Goose has replaced Big’s wife, Peggy. Mav has made it to and gone on from Exit 71. Most aid stations end up looking like weird eckletic parking lots full of people offering food and fluid to anyone and everyone.

And here is Mav leaving:

Meanwhile, Samsonite went through 50 miles in 8:13. He was having some nutrition issues and some cramping, so they did some stretching and got some advice from Doc Tom and Big about his food and fluid issues and he is back on track. He is currently in 3rd place.

Clinton Down

by admin on November 8, 2008

Our fearless Piranas hit a few rough spots along the way, but they still are encouraging every one else along the way! Once into Clinton T3 has decided to drop out. He has struggled with ITB issues for several miles and it is not getting any better. He had hoped to limp it along to at least 50 miles, but it is not in the cards.

Mav is still going strong and is back out on the road headed to Exit 71.

The boys are doing fine!

Mav & T3 are keeping it within themselves, playing the game and making it through. All, at or near that 35 mile “struggle zone” but pushing on. Samsonite is keeping his 9:00 pace and working on a great race, currently in 2nd place. Five and half hours in he is currently at 38 miles. Go baby Go!
