Best Burgers in Borden

by admin on March 1, 2008

Goose bought (and ate) a hamburger at Borden. Goose’s eating and training habits are already the stuff of legends, and this latest episode just serves to strength the myth that is the man.

As the day wears on we see more and more runners trying to get some rest and stay out of the sun and heat.

Maverick destroyed his leg and handed off to Big.

We are all getting a little sore and Maverick had some bad cramps right before this leg. He did great, but still hurts some. T3 is about to find out if he has worked out his Achilles problem (right leg). We are looking forward to the sun going down.

Whatcha talkin about Willis?

We really appreciate COMMENTS! Knowing that you are out there watching us and cheering us on means a lot. So post a comment. We read them every time we post.

We are at the Borden Country Store (whoo hoo) waiting for Maverick.

The reason no Piraña Brothers are in the picture is we are too tired to get out of the van :)

Hitchin at the Outpost

by admin on March 1, 2008

Ok. for those of you keeping score: Goose is currently running leg 13. It is 3:00 PM in Texas and we are just down the road from the “Outpost”. T3 has Achilles problems and lost 5 minutes on his last leg, but Weeble killed his leg and made up almost 5 minutes (when it absolutely has to be there: FedEx!).

We got passed by the Run Chugga Lugga’s during T3’s leg (right at the end:() But Weeble blew past them early in his and we are back in the lead again.

We really are running in the middle of nowhere! More later.

Oh to be in Flatonia

by admin on March 1, 2008

Wait, we ARE in Flatonia.

flatonia.jpg

Of course, we are struggling to get Mav to keep his shirt on…

And of course, we are always happy to to see the big blue rest cubicles.

Weeble burned up his leg and handed off to Maverick.

We have made quite a few friends, though some of them are a little strange:

When Mav finishes this leg we are over 50 miles in. T3 is up next.

Technology is Great (Until it fails)

by admin on March 1, 2008

We have had very poor to no signal on the WIFI so it has taken a while to get this post up.

Well, so far so good. Weeble did leg 4 (4.46 miles) in 38:19 for a 8:33 pace. He finished coming up a big hill into a park and still in he fog. We caught the team that started at 5:00 AM!

Then Big ran leg 5 (2.45 miles) in 24:22 for a 9:57 pace, finishing at the brewery:

Then Goos took over for his second leg. We are now out on Highway 90 and it is long, straight and hilly. The sun has come out and the temp and humidity are rising. It is going to be a long day.

A shout out to Austin and Jackson for a hard fought game in the semi-finals of their BBall tourney. Losing is hard, but you are winners for playing hard.

Runnin’ in the Fog

by admin on March 1, 2008

It is still very foggy out. This is the now infamous Team Piraña van at the 3rd exchange as we wait for Maverick to finish his leg.

foggedin.jpg

There was no porta-potties at this exchange so we had fun watching people pull up, get out, look around, then eventually head into the woods carrying baby wipes or some other form of paper product! We have only been out here a couple of hours, but this has already started to happen:

Maverick ran his leg (8.78 miles) in 1:11 for about an 8:00ish pace! We made the exchange and Weeble was off and running.

The Golden Goose

Goose ran the second leg in 39:39 for a 8:15 pace.

Maverick is out on leg 3 and we are out in front at this point. Of course, since teams are starting later and later, we will eventually be caught and will certainly be beat by time before the day is done. No worries though, no one will have more fun than we will!
