Pirañas To Eat Up 26.2

by admin on March 22, 2008

Team Piraña has set their sites on the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon (April 27, 2008). This is the 8th Annual running of this “Run To Remember” and two of the Pirañas have run all 7 previous marathons. We are currently training Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday as a Team.

The marathon is a great distance. It is long enough to require endurance training and proper hydration and fueling plans, yet short enough to recover from quickly. This will be a great early Spring warm-up for the team before we begin to go to longer races this summer leading up to the Mother Road 100 in November.

If you want to join us for a long run one Saturday, send us a note at gear@piranabrothers.com.com.

Team Piraña’s TIR Top Tens

by admin on March 4, 2008

Top Ten Best Things:

  1. Our incredibly supportive families and friends who kept up with us via the web and posted great comments.
  2. Spending two nights at the Farmhouse in Shiner (Mav’s idea). Thanks Mike!
  3. Watching Goose tear holes in two (count em, two) pairs of shorts, one right after another!
  4. Free beer at Shiner (on Friday, not during the race.)
  5. Best Crew in the World (ok, that was us, but we really appreciated each other!)
  6. Getting to watch Mav change clothes in the van.
  7. Handles in the Porta-Potties (by the end of the race it was the only way we could get back up!)
  8. Other Teams that were supportive, fun and great to be around.
  9. Glimpsing the Monument as we crested the hill.
  10. The tears in our eyes at the finish. We were glad to be done, but sad that it was over.

Top Ten Worst Things:

  1. Trying to find a postcard in Gonzales (there aren’t any.)
  2. We didn’t train for the heat and humidity (it was cold in Oklahoma)
  3. Terrible cell reception for first half of race (made updating the web site tough.)
  4. Early teams (i.e., us) beat the volunteers to the first 6 or so exchange/aid stations.
  5.  Porta-Potties WAY to far from the exchange points (we think we ran an extra 10 miles just visting the john!)
  6. A driver in Shiner yelling, “Take your jack**s home!”
  7. Other Teams that were not supportive, broke the rules and didn’t play fair.
  8. The Smell (us, the van, roadkill, us, drainage ditches, us, roadkill, etc.)
  9. Well meaning, but poorly informed people on the course relaying bad info, i.e., “You only have 7 miles left!” when we were running a 5.5 mile leg.
  10. The trip being over (we were having too much fun!)

Just the Facts Ma’am

There’s No Place Like Home

by admin on March 3, 2008

The Pirañas are home! We got back to T3’s house (where all the cars were left for the trip) to find everyone’s car windows decorated! Very fun.

It took a little while to unpack the Piraña Mobile (and we found a lot of really yucky stuff in the process) but finally everyone had their stuff in their own car and it was time to go :(

So this trip comes to a close and we begin to look forward to the next. We will be posting our Top 10 Favorite and Top 10 Least Favorite Things about the weekend in the next day or so. See ya.

Taqueria

by admin on March 3, 2008

Looking for lunch we decided that T3’s experience after his final leg was worth recreating. So, we told Marg (our pet name for the GPS) to find a taqueria for us and we ended up here:

We decided it looked like the place for us, so we went in. That was when we found out they only did “to go” food. So we ordered tacos and burritos and got chips and salsa (including a guacamole that was fabulous) and then went back to the Piraña Mobile to eat:

The food was awesome! We all ordered several items, but any one item would have been a meal. T3 thought the lamb burrito was the best. After we ate we decided to go back in a get our picture taken with everyone:

So if you are ever in Denton and you want some incredible Mexican food (and you have someplace you can eat it) the Piraña’s highly recommend La Sabrosa Sabrocita Tortilleria and Taqueria. They are located at 201 Dallas in Denton.

Sam, Sam, He’s Our Man

by admin on March 3, 2008

Team Piraña stopped to pay tribute to Sam Houston in his home town of Huntsville (we didn’t stay long as there is a State Prison there and several of the Piraña Brothers have outstanding warrants.)

We struggled a little getting down the stairs (we are struggling a little getting in and out of the van too)

David Zeller was kind enough to take our picture:

We gassed up the Piraña Mobile and got some coffee and we are back on the road heading north.

Happy Trails

by admin on March 3, 2008

It is now the morning after and we are definitely feeling the effects of what we did for the last 2 days. Last night we went down to the hotel restaurant and had burgers! Weeble was not feeling well so he went back up and laid down. We left most of the “race” stuff in the van, but we did manage to bring a LOT of stuff to the room with us:

Everybody took the opportunity to check our email and phone msgs:

Went went to bed early (just to remind you, we hadn’t slept since 4:00AM on Saturday). The only problem was that we only had 4 beds for 5 guys, but we worked it out.

Maverick Loses Mind At Finish Line

by admin on March 2, 2008

After a great start and an even stronger run:

mavstrong.jpg

Mav brought Team Piraña in in rapid style, but there was some concern that he was actually insane by the time he crossed the line (pun intended), you be the judge:

mavfinish.jpg

Mav said when he finished he was seeing colors and stars and stuff. We kid you not, Mav was jumping and high fiving and weaving from side to side and leaping, etc. We then posed for a team pic

We then carried our flag as a team across the OFFICIAL FINISH LINE

and got our medals:

piranamedal.jpg

which are kinda cheesy since they are just some off-the-shelf Texas star thing that they zip-tied to a ribbon. They are heavy though.

We were either going to be first or second in our division (Corporate Open Male) so Mav talked them into giving us the second place prize (since they had enough salsa to give to first and second) and then mail us the first place prize if we won first!

So…they took our picture in case we won.

We had a great time! We are all very tired (except Mav who says he is ready to go again) We headed into Houston and checked into the Downtown Double Tree where we are currently cleaning up. We are going to eat at the Hotel Restaurant because we really don’t want to get back into the van OR walk anywhere!

A Big Finish!

by admin on March 2, 2008

Big did the deed (the running one, not the other one) and ran a strong leg with an even stronger finish:

bigstrong.jpg

He handed off to Mav for the 40th and final leg.

We have been up for 35 hours and running for almost 33 hours and we know we are getting weird, but standing around waitin for your runner to come in, it is amazing what people will say and do. This lady got bit by a dog on a night leg and was intent on showing everyone.

When Mav finishes we all go up to the monument and that is the Finish Line! We will take lots of pics, but it may take some time for us to get a post in. Stay tuned!
